Who I Am and Why I’m Here

Who is this Joker, you wonder? Like the subtitle of the blog says, I’m just another guy in a wheelchair with a lot of time to think. Sometimes that thinking gets me looking like the fellow on the left (sans the make-up and the zoot suit).

Seriously, I’m a late 50s multi-career (grocery store bagger/cashier, Navy Cryptologic Technician, computer programmer, short order cook and cross-country tractor-trailer driver) who is “differently abled” due to primary progressive Multiple Sclerosis and Small B-cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (in remission, for now [update, relapsed 12/12 will be in chemo starting 01/13]). I spend most of my time in a wheelchair, though I can walk for short distances and stand for short periods of time. I like to write (and read) poetry and creative writing. Music is another passion of mine. I am in the process of attempting (for the second time) to teach myself to play electric guitar. I spend a lot of time in front of (and inside of) computers (yep, that’s right, nerd central. Used to have the pocket protector to prove it).

This blog was mainly designed as an outlet for my creative side and a place to voice some of my crazy ideas and (if anyone reads it, LOL) a place to get some feedback (no not the type Jimi was fond of, though I like it too). Never concern yourself with my feelings, I really do want to know if something I’ve written sucks or if you think I’m a crackpot concerning a particular issue. That is your right (as is my right to ignore said feedback or throw random comebacks out there [8~D) ).

So enjoy your time here and don’t hesitate to agree or disagree with anything here. Don’t hesitate to share what you like, either. Just don’t try to make any money off of it (as if!).

  1. Howdy would you mind letting me know which webhost you’re using?

I’ve loaded your blog in 3 different browsers and I must say this blog loads a lot faster
then most. Can you recommend a good web hosting provider at a fair price?
    Thanks, I appreciate it!

  2. Hello, I have nominated you for the Liebster award.
    Check it out here,

  3. Pretty nice post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say that I have really enjoyed
surfing around your blog posts. After all I will be subscribing to your
rss feed and I hope you write again very soon!

  4. Congratulations! I have nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award! Please go here to read about this award! Thank you!
    Bree :)

  5. Hola Kip, just wanted to let you know you are on the receiving end of the Bear Hug award:) You can read more here: http://missytree.com/2012/09/29/the-bear-hug-award-an-award-of-sincere-appreciation-goes-to/

  6. Just love the word “afeared” – Thank you so much for visiting my blog and introducing me to your wonder world. Who is the photographer? I think you are a very brave person who has truly been dealt a raw deal! I will be back to follow your journey.

    • You’re so kind :) As for afeared, sometimes I affect a “Beverly Hillbilly’s” dialect because of my life in the South. I’m glad someone else appreciates it :) . The thank yous should be mine for you coming to visit my little world. If you’re speaking of the photographs of myself, then I would be the photographer. I love using little tricks like displaying a preview of my web cam on screen while holding my phone up in front of it so that I can see what’s in the picture. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 shots to get it right, though. I may have been dealt a raw deal, but I take solace in the fact that, for one, I’m still here and still smiling and that my problems are nothing compared to millions (or even billions) who are in far worse shape. I appreciate you taking the time to peek in at my little meandering journey towards who knows where and I will be doing the same on your blog, though it may be sporadic as I’ve bitten off more than 10 people can chew when subscribing to blogs :)

Say what you care to here. Don't be afeared to speak up!

Vic's Final Journey

I am a fifty something wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. I started blogging as a coping mechanism during my beautiful daughter's final journey. Vic was desperately ill for 10 years after a botched back operation. Dying is a lonely journey. Not only for the sick person but also for the family. As hard as we may try to avoid death, the truth is that we do a lousy job of it. Science and medicine will certainly postpone it, even staying healthy might seem to delay it, but the harsh reality is that death does not wait for you, it does not ask you, and it does not listen to you. Death ignores your feelings and wants; you do not matter to death…Death is the only certainty in life! We need to remember that our existence here is fragile, and we never have as much time with people as we think we do. If there is someone or someones out there that you love, don’t neglect that and don’t put off engaging with them because waits for no-one... Vic's Journey ended on 18 January 2013 at 10:35. She was the most courageous person in the world and has inspired thousands of people all over the world. Vic's two boys are monuments of her existence. She was an amazing mother, daughter, sister and friend. I will miss you today, tomorrow and forever my Angle Child.
